I Can't Find Good Keywords :(

You need to get a lot of bad ideas to find a few good ones. It's like panning for gold. You'll go through a lot of dirt before you find the valuable gold.

So how do we find a lot of keywords?

  • Start Offline
  • Go Online

Start Offline

  • How do you think a shopper would normally search for your product?
  • What problems are they solving with it (aka why they buy it)?
  • Where do they hangout online? What do they read online? (Find out offline so you don't get lost in the endless internet)
  • Ask friends/family that fit your target audience.
  • People from different regions use different words. Write all this down for inspiration.

Go Online

  • Ask on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram how people would search for your product or what they would use it for. (It's super important not to just run out and apply this information as keywords. We're still upstream of getting the hard data on them.)
  • Go to where your customers hangout online. Read what they read. Take note of the words they use. This is helpful for keyword brainstorming and later in writing your descriptions.

Get More Suggestions From Marmalead

One of the top needs we hear from shops is help with keyword suggestions. With the Storm feature, Marmalead has you covered!

Customers always flip out over how easy it is to generate a HUGE list of relevant keywords!

Enter a keyword and the storm delivers a list of suggestions which are even scored using the MarmaMeters. Save the ones you like, clear the ones you don’t and you’re left with a list of good keywords. Make as many storms as you like!

Now What?

Take this new found keyword pay dirt and run it through the gold finding machine.

Hint: The gold finding machine is in Marmalead. We recommend starting with Keyword Comparison to narrow down your list and toss out the obvious losers. Take the maybes and bring them over to Keyword Search for a deep dive.

Remember we spend time on this process because it's worth it. The top 10% in any field are willing to do what the other 90% aren't willing to do. They never quit.
